my name is gilbert garden and my pronouns are they/them.
yeah, i'm non-binary thanks for asking.
i am learning to doing stuff sustainably and could be considerred an artist if you want, although titles are a silly, i'm less offput by "creative" or "organiser"
Why do i dislike the term artist?
There's such a senselessness to borders. Invisible lines drawn to contain things otherwise free to traverse. These borders exist everywhere, and cause more avoidable harm than cigarettes, especially in educational spaces, artistic spaces, community spaces. We see one person at a time, and their practice as an extension of them as an individual. Their work a contribution to 'ART/SOCIETY AS WE KNOW IT'. We section off a space in the room for each person, jagged edges and different worlds. When we loosen the borders of what a practice must look like, when we make space for many names, many stories, what ideas, what practices emerge? What connections could be made? What would this look like? ART/SOCIETY AS WE DON'T YET KNOW IT? What if art was not just art, but a way of listening, a way of talking, a way of knowing that everything is interconnected and cared about? What if you took off your hinges, got rid of the doors, let the other in? What if these new intimacies surpass sex, drugs and rock & roll? What if art became shared, active, responsive/ible, truthful? what new heights of connection/expression could we achieve?
TLDR: neoliberalism/individualism sucks

Wait!? G0blog is back online???? Yeah whoops, i wanted to make
my static site into a really cool dynamic one instead (cringe
and the worst mistake of my life) That broke everything and i
couldn't be bothered fixing it so i had no website. Fixed that
problem, now i do again - yay?
time to update my website I guess... what a drag.
I'll make another blog update when it's up to date i guess.
No more uni!! Woohoo! I feel relieved and also a bit scared, I
now have no external forces getting me out of bed in the
morning. This also provokes a feeling in me to get back into
stronger routines, which I have been struggling to maintain. I
used to be much better about my routines but they were mostly
motivated by fear and the grindset, not planning on falling back
into either of those but I think having a better living space
would be a big first improvement.
I'm still quite productive and am ~okay~ at looking after myself,
but I'm not really conquering that feeling of floating through life.
There are systems that have been making things easier for myself,
like bulk cooking club with my housemates but big life change is stil
a difficult nut to crack when youtube holes are sooooo appealing.
bit of a life overview, i have a big project backlog (whoops)
getting this site back online was one of them, now done (yay!).
others include aspirational renovation projects on rewind that
now need to be fast tracked into existence (frick). I really
want to be able to invest time and energy into building more
coooooool things but I am dragged down by university and
self-sabotage (mostly self-sabotage) Hopefully I can use this
site to keep me accountable a bit, and remind myself to involve
my friends in everything!!
I've updated the project list at
the bottom of the page to reflect current scenarios but I think
i want to include some kind of general blog on this site as
well,,, to document my comings and goings. As of right now the
site is fully static with some JS flare and in classic gilbert
fashion it's ALL information in a single page, maybe this will
change one day, maybe it won't, we shall see...
